You could be like me. You're in school or out of school, and you want to know where you can find a volunteering job. Or, maybe you just love helping people. No matter what you're reason is you can benefit from volunteering jobs. They add credibility to your resume. It might be a big benefactor for whichever job you take on. In this article, you will learn how to score you're very own volunteering job.
First, you should take a look at the area you live in. Do you live in a small town or city? If you live in a small town like I do, chances are, your choices are limited. Seriously think about where you want to volunteer at. Animal shelters, schools, and hospitals are great places to start. You can find them in your local phone book and ask them if they're taking on any volunteers, or if they need extra help. This may help you in having your very own volunteering job.
If that's not possible, you can always try your church. They will have food programs and a variety of other programs that you can help with. Some will have you read scriptures to elderly parishioners.
You can always check with your employer as well. They can tell you if they're hosting a volunteering day. The human resources department can also give you a list of participating organizations. You're more than likely to find a few volunteering jobs there.
As always, you can look online. Volunteer.gov is a great web site for finding volunteering jobs. You can look throughout the country or specifically in your area. There may even be a chance to do some online volunteering. The possibilities are endless!
If you're still unsure where to volunteer, look around your neighborhood. Do you have any elderly neighbors? More than likely you can help them with household chores and other tasks. If you drive, you can go grocery shopping for them. You can create your own volunteering job this way! You'll feel a sense of accomplishment in helping out your neighbors.
Here's a side note: it's always best to have a few different volunteering jobs listed on your resume. It'll show how much you like to help out. This is a better message instead of saying, "I did volunteer at least once!"
No matter what kind of volunteering job you choose, you should make sure you list it on your resume. Keep a track of the person's names, organizations, addresses, and phone numbers. You will need to document this all into your resume.
You will also notice how fun volunteering is! You will get a real sense of pride out of it! Help someone out today.
