Substance Abuse Counselor responsibilities are but not limited to:
Individual, group, and family counseling, therapy, case management, and education. Counselors may meet with clients in individual, group, and family settings. Counselors may assist clients with a variety of problems but the primary focus of our agency is working with clients' drug abuse problems. Counselors may work with the drug-abuse clients on a variety of issues including vocational, cognitive, psychological, legal, social, cultural, life-style changes, behavioral changes as well as avoidance of their previous drug culture.Counselors are responsible for intake assessments, initial treatment plans, as well as after-care and discharge planning. Treatment with clients will follow Federal as well as OASA regulations as well as treatment plans, goals, and objectives. Client treatment may include referrals to outside resources. The client's primary counselor will function as the focus point for client treatment at Family Guidance Centers. Most changes, modifications, and/or transitions in treatment for the clients will originate with the Counselor i.e. pick-up changes, etc.
Salary starting at $32,000 per year
Work Hours: Monday thru Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution preferred. Master's degree preferred, not required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
IAODAPCA Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor required; given two years to acquire upon hire date or based on previous substance abuse position experience.
State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.
Properly administer and read alcohol analyzers.
Ability to use analytical software.
Ability to use calendar and scheduling software.
Experience using desktop computers, copier, and fax machine.
