PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Volunteer and Training Coordinator works to recruit, train and retain Volunteers/ Peers for the 24/7 Friendship Line. The Volunteer and Training Coordinator works closely with Friendship Line staff to fulfill the mission of the line to provide crisis and emotional support to older adults and adults with disabilities.PHYSICAL AND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:Ability to comprehend complex materialsAbility to use computer with a variety of software programsAbility to communicate clearly in EnglishAbility to travel within SF and other Bay Area Counties for work assignements ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Volunteer program administration:Studies management methods in order to improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures, or implement cost reductions. Makes recommendations to Director.Primarily engaged in development and implementation of volunteer program policies and procedures.Produce quarterly accounting of volunteer usage for senior leadership review. Compile other reports as needed.Analyzes operating practices, such as record keeping systems, forms control, office layout, suggestion systems or revise established procedures. Makes recommendations to DirectorMaintain confidential volunteer personnel files and records.Has the authority to hire or terminate Volunteers, make meaningful suggestions and recommendations relating to the hiring or termination and advancement and promotion or any other change of status of other volunteersPerform other department tasks as assigned. Volunteer recruitment:Works closely with Director on developing and refining overall FL Volunteer recruitment strategy and plan.Responsible for creating new agency contacts and partnerships within the community for recruitment possibilities, acting as primary liaison with local colleges and universities.Represent the Friendship Line at Volunteer recruitment events in the communityMaintain and actively recruit online volunteer postings. Volunteer onboarding:Screen prospective volunteers -phone and in personPrimarily engaged in duties related to Interviewing, Selecting and Training employeesCoordinate prospective volunteers’ paperwork, background checks, and reference checks.Schedule and train new volunteers through their observation process Training:Organizing and managing volunteer orientation and trainings both initial trainings and observations.Assist in presenting volunteer training. Provide impromptu training and support to volunteers as needed. Serve as lead contact for volunteers. Volunteer supervision: Primarily engaged in quarterly evaluations of volunteers.Participate in volunteer disciplinary measures when appropriate.Exercises discretionary authority to hire or let-go Volunteers- makes meaningful suggestions and recommendations relating to the employment and advancement and promotion or any other change of status of other volunteersVolunteer retention:Organize yearly volunteer appreciation event in April.Plan and execute ongoing volunteer appreciation measures.Participate in creating retention plan. EDUCATIONBachelor’s Degree preferred; Human Services, Social Work, or other health-related field, including Gerontology, Psychology, or Health Sciences. BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCEMinimum two years of experience in volunteer training, recruitment, retention.Experience conducting trainings and workshops preferredDemonstrates good problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; detail-oriented; ability to multi-task and to follow through to project completion.Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and Internet.Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and handle confidential information.Experience working with older adults and people with disabilities preferred.Strong communication (listening, verbal, and written), collaboration and organizational skills.Customer-service oriented with strong interpersonal skills.Maximum flexibility to manage demands of fast-paced work environment.Hotline or Crisis Line experience preferred.History of volunteer experience preferred.
