Volunteer and Legal Clinics Coordinator

The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of The Bar Association of San Francisco currently has an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer and Legal Clinics Coordinator to become part of our team!
JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC’s holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs.
About the Job
JDC’s Volunteer & Legal Clinics Coordinator is responsible for activities related to recruiting and retaining volunteers, as well as coordinating two to three community legal clinics a month. Under the supervision of the JDC Pro Bono Manager, the Coordinator implements JDC’s recruitment and retention plan, including producing the annual volunteer appreciation party. The Coordinator must screen and respond promptly to attorneys, social workers, interpreters, paralegals, students, and others interested in volunteering. This position involves creating social media posts, outreach flyers and brochures, and brief articles for newspapers and newsletters. The position works with JDC staff to develop volunteer opportunities and recruitment campaigns in response to changing needs. The Coordinator also recruits law student interns, and supervises general office interns. The position coordinates all aspects of volunteer trainings, including email and website sign-ups, calendaring, and administering a website for volunteers, www.probono.net/bayarea. Additionally the Coordinator organizes and coordinates the logistics, volunteer scheduling, and on-site coordination for JDC’s community clinics held two Saturdays a month, as well as JDC’s clinics at Project Homeless Connect events four to six weekdays a year.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and expertise sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.
Skills and Requirements
The position requires working two Saturdays a month in San Francisco
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to multi-task efficiently in a high volume, fast-paced environment
Ability to independently prioritize work, and follow up as necessary to meet due dates
Understand the importance of attention to detail
Enjoys motivating and engaging others in a team-oriented environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, ACCESS)
Experience utilizing social media to encourage volunteerism and participation in social justice issues is a plus
Commitment to social justice and working with low-income communities is preferred
Experience working people who are homeless and/or have disabilities is preferred
