JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Director of Special Events

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Director of Individual Giving POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Special Events is responsible for the direct supervision and planning of all JCC special events. Duties include developing a strategic plan for the department, generating sponsorship opportunities, effectively communicating with current and prospective clients, planning and managing events, collaborating effectively with other departments and staff to always present the JCCSI and Sunrise Day Camp in the best possible light. The Director of Special Events focuses on building external relationships and marketing the JCC of Staten Island as well as providing an exceptional level of customer service to both colleagues and clients alike. QUALIFICATIONS:

• College degree in event management, marketing, business, or related field

• 5 years’ experience in planning, fundraising and implementing special events for a nonprofit organization

• Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal) necessary in order to communicate diplomatically and effectively with volunteers, high level donors, and staff

• Ability to work steadily and calmly in high-pressure situations

• Initiative, follow through, sound and accurate judgment with an ability to support and explain reasoning for decisions; including appropriate people in decision-making process; and ensure timely decisions are made

• Strong attention to detail

• Proven record of success in fundraising, sales and marketing

• Experience creating and managing budgets, evaluating a strong ROI

• Knowledge of event planning best practices

• Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines

• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues

• Ability to manage workflow and projects for direct reports DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinates and personally supervises all major JCC events (Star of David, Las Vegas Casino Night, L’Dor V’Dor, Youth Recognition, & Golf, Tennis & Bocce Classic, as well as including Sunrise Day Camp special events (i.e. walk, Sunrise Sunday, Sunrise in Manhattan, Sunrise in New Jersey, etc) • Collaborates with the Marketing Department to develop and implement marketing plans for these events.

• Assists in the preparation and implementation of the special events budget.

• Maintains yearly schedule of all JCC Special events.

• Ensures timely follow-up to each event, including briefings, minutes, thank you letters and invoicing.

• Oversees the planning meetings and prepares Pre-Event Reports, Agendas and Meeting Minutes.

• Works closely with department staff to achieve annual revenue goals for the department.

• Work collaboratively with committees and JCC staff to recruit and train volunteers for all special events.

• Supports the Director of Individual Giving in the evaluation of effectiveness of events and conducts post-event wrap up and evaluation meetings.

• Assists with any other duties and activities as requested by the Director of Individual Giving.
