This is an AmeriCorps VISTA Assignment supported through theCorporation for National and Community Service (please seewww.nationalservice.org - click on AmeriCorps for pertinent information aboutbecoming a VISTA). The Health Initiatives Program VISTA (HIP) will engage withTennessee State University's Center for Service Learning & Civic Engagement(CSLCE) and the College of Health Sciences (COHS) to develop plans forimplementing a Health Initiatives/Healthy Campus program that will serve theTSU campus and the immediate surrounding community. The VISTA will engage withCSLCE staff and COHS staff to develop a health assessment that will identifyspecific health issues and health disparities affecting the TSU community.VISTA will also set parameters and guidelines to identify potential students tobecome TSU Health Ambassadors, a vital component of HIP, as well as developingplans for health initiative education programs presented monthly. Inconjunction with CSLCE, COHS staff and the Health Ambassadors, anevaluation tool will be developed for assessing the success of the HIP program.
Qualifications include: Good organizational skills; Ability to work effectively with diverse populations; Good interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to manage others and delegate tasks; Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; Familiar with issues of ethnic groups and health disparities; Full time assignment working 37.5 hours per week; Bachelor's Degree minimum requirement.
