Overall Job Objective Position Summary & Duties Responsible Position SummaryUnder direction of the assigned supervisor, perform professional level duties and functions associated with the treatment of substance abuse (drug and alcohol).  Will assist in providing comprehensive detoxification and treatment services to clients within the program.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesObtain relevant information about clients through interview, assessment and case history; assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery; observe, intervene and report client adherence to program goals and objectives.Work in conjunction with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and other activities utilized for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.Gather and research data utilized to track the reliability and validity of treatment that has been provided; make recommendations regarding modification of services and service delivery.Process new clients, i.e., issuance of clothing, orientation to the rules of facilities and assist clients with daily activities, events and informational literature.Will provide education to individuals and groups in the community and facilitate group presentations and workshops.Transport clients to appointments and other service locations outside of assigned program.Prepare and maintain statistical reports, case histories, maintain progress notes and document behavioral incidents through observation of clients and maintain confidential records.          .Participate in reviews of job performance and adhere to recommended measures for change.Receive guidance and training from Substance Abuse Technician - Lead staff within the division.Maintain current knowledge base on counseling issues regarding substance abuse through conferences, educational training and networking with other agencies or groups.Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.*The above information on this job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.  It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities required of all employees assigned to this job. Minimum Qualifications Associate Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminology or related field, plus three (3) years experience working in substance abuse field, health care, or related setting, law enforcement, emergency management, corrections, or other related field OR any combination of post-secondary education and/or experience totaling five (5) years working in substance abuse field, health care or related setting, law enforcement, emergency management, corrections or other related field.Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred.Must have knowledge of operations and activities of an addiction treatment program.Must have knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse theory and treatment; knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.Must have knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to client rights.Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with administration, subordinates and the general public.Must have the ability to analyze situations in a rational, mature and confident manner and to remain calm under stressful situations.Must have the ability to utilize discretion and independent judgment; ability to maintain confidentiality of client records at all times.Must be skilled in the use of computers to generate reports and maintain records.Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to write reports.Must have the ability to operate a variety of office equipment.Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred. Supplemental Information Screening and ComplianceThe offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination.Employee must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.Employee may be required to work different shifts and program reassignments.Working ConditionsEssential job duties are performed indoors in climate-controlled environment.Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.Works alone primarily, with or without directions.  Works with groups and with a select team at times.Equipment, Tools and MaterialsTelephone, typewriter, calculator, computer, fax machine, and copy machine are used in performance of essential job duties.Various forms of paperwork are handled in performance of essential job duties.
