Camp Immokalee Volunteer Nurse
Under the direction of the Consulting Physician and Executive Director, the Volunteer Nurse will provide camper health evaluations and treatments, and the dispensing of medications. The nurse on duty will provide assistance on check-in and checkout days and will help prepare medications for overnights and early checkouts.
In exchange for the services of the volunteer nurse, Camp Immokalee agrees to provide camp on a week to week basis for children in the nurse's immediate family.
The Volunteer Nurse will be a currently licensed Registered Nurse or licensed Practical Nurse. He/She will have the professional knowledge to evaluate and treat illness and injury, as well as to dispense medication and the documentation of such.
Attend a short orientation meeting before camper check-in begins.
Secure all required signatures, pertinent medical notes, etc. for those campers turning in health forms during check-in, or for those forms previously turned in that need additional information completed.
Document all camper medication received. Complete a medication card for each camper and sign after the parent/guardian signs. Place in Zip-lock bag with camper's name and cabin number on the bag. Make sure that the med log is also completed for each camper.
Assist with health screening evaluations and lice checks as needed.
Take all meds received during check-in to the health clinic. Place bags in appropriate boxes.
Assist with completion of the cabin med sheets as needed.
General Daily Duties
Assist with completion of all forms i.e. health forms, communication forms, med reminders, accident reports, and Workman's Comp reports. (Worker's Comp. Forms may not be completed without the knowledge of the Camp Director)
Evaluate and treat campers, staff, and guests. Maintain accurate documentation of evaluations, treatments and medications in logbooks for each incident. There are 2 logbooks: Camp Immokalee Counselors and Camp Immokalee Campers.
Prepare medications for routine dispensing or overnights.
Keep area clean and neat at all times. Complete maintenance slips for repairs as needed.
Ensure that campers/Counselor Staff are NEVER to be unattended in the health clinic.
Contact parents as needed concerning campers' health. Document calls made or messages left.
Assist with monitoring of medical supplies for ordering purposes. Advise Excutive Director of needed materials.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Prepare all campers' meds by cabin. Take all medications to breakfast and distribute to appropriate Counselor. NO MEDICATIONS ARE TO BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE CAMPERS.
Double-check all boxes and the refrigerators to assure all medications are gone.
Pull all health forms for that session and place in lower filing cabinet drawer. Also pull that week's med log and place in appropriate folder in cabinet.
Clean out refrigerators of unused food. Strip used beds and prepare for laundry pick-up.
If nurse is ending the 1st week of a 2-week session, brief the incoming nurses to camper or staff health status. Please note that nurses are here to serve the campers, staff, and guests. There is usually 1 nurse per session, sometimes it may not be possible to meet all of the needs of the nurse. It is difficult to predict what will happen in a given session, and the nurse must be willing to perform their duties. Most nurses return for another summer, and there are many benefits to volunteering. The camp will do what it can to help everyone have a wonderful experience.

LPN or RN, State of Florida Active License.
Certification in CPR, PALS and ACLS required.
Pediatric Experience preferred.
Previous camp experience preferred.
Must be cleared to drive a camp vehicle to transport campers to ER, dentist, or doctor.
Ability to lift or assist campers or staff.
