Position Title PAVE Volunteer Coordinator 18-19

Compensation and Terms of Employment:

$10.50/hour; each position is considered by the PAVE interviewing committee and is

hired by the chair. The position is open to all University students.

6 hours/week for 4 weeks during the summer (48 total hours)

16 hours/week for 33 weeks during the academic year (528 total hours)

Start date: July 1, 2018

End date: June 30, 2019 (or May 2017 for graduating students)

Purpose The Volunteer Coordinator of PAVE serves as a liaison between the PAVE leaders

and volunteers by maintaining relationships with volunteers, notifying volunteers of

opportunities within PAVE and coordinating volunteers at events to strengthen

PAVE’s membership base.

Responsibilities Volunteer Outreach:

 Works with volunteers to respond to requests, provide leadership

opportunities, and carry out the mission of PAVE as indicated by volunteers

and PAVE’s mission statement

 Responds to all volunteers in a timely manner and ensures volunteers are

included in and informed about PAVE’s action on campus

 Sends out update emails to the PAVE volunteer listserve regarding volunteer

opportunities and other PAVE news

 Holds and leads volunteer meetings and orientations

 Follows up with Social Work 672 Peer Education graduates and other

volunteers to ensure they stay involved with PAVE

 Leads volunteer efforts for PAVE’s involvement in Domestic Violence

Awareness Month in October, Stalking Awareness Month in Februaury, and

Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April

 Communicates needs of volunteers to PAVE leaders

 Pursues events for PAVE members to table at and coordinates the staff and

volunteers that will table at these events

 Updates Facebook group with relevant volunteer information

 Updates website with new volunteer activities

 Actively markets PAVE’s services in partnership with the Campus Outreach

Coordinator

 Works with the Peer Education Coordinators to recruit students for the Peer

Education Program

Financial:

 Maintains personal spreadsheet for each event and/or campaign

 Works with the Chair and Finance/Office Coordinator to properly and

effectively use PAVE’s budget for campus programming

Operational:

 In partnership with the Peer Education Coordinators, maintains accurate and

up to date contact information for all PAVE volunteers, which includes but is

not limited to: past class participants, current class participants and

facilitators

 Updates volunteer listserve and adds contacts as necessary

 Creates and sends out semi-monthly emails to the PAVE listserve

 Responsible for the facilitation of volunteer meetings and orientations

Basic Staff Responsibilities:

 Attends weekly staff meetings

 Attends events put on by PAVE staff and volunteers

 Submits accurate timesheets biweekly

 Checks PAVE email twice during the day (morning and evening) and

responds to emails in a timely manner

 Meets with volunteers at the beginning of each semester

Relationships PAVE Chair—regular meetings

Other campus community partners—meetings as appropriate

PAVE staff and volunteers—meetings as appropriate

Qualifications:

 Must be currently enrolled as a student at UW-Madison

 Exceptional organizational and verbal skills

 Solid commitment to PAVE’s mission statement and to ending

sexual/domestic violence

 Willing to commit necessary time to the position in order to help the

organization be successful in engaging volunteers and evaluating PAVE

events based on the experiences of PAVE’s membership

 Knowledge of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and primary violence

prevention strategies

 Ability to follow-up with, motivate, and support PAVE volunteers

 Experience working with volunteers

Training and Orientation:

 Attends summer orientation meeting with the PAVE Advisor

 As applicable, summer planning meetings with the PAVE Chair

 Attends staff/leader orientation meetings at the beginning of each semester

 Attends conferences as appropriate

 Meets with volunteers at the beginning of each semester

Reports to or is supervised by

PAVE Chair:

Regular meetings to update on status of projects

Once a semester, the Chair will conduct performance reviews with input from the

PAVE Advisor and membership

Also accountable to the PAVE Advisor, UHS Violence Prevention Specialist
