The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Manager of Volunteer Services to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Position Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the Manager of Volunteer Services is responsible for incorporating volunteer participation and engagement as a strategic function in supporting the Adler’s mission. Organizing and managing a complete volunteer services program including recruitment, onboarding, training, and delivery of services. This individual will also be responsible for: In collaboration with department managers, identifying work throughout the organization that can be accomplished by volunteers and coordinating their services Developing, administering, and reviewing policies and procedures which guide the volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization Promoting the volunteer program to gain community support of the volunteer program and the institution Implementing effective strategies to attract a diverse volunteer candidate audience with the appropriate skills for Adler needs Orienting volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its guests, services, and the expectations/responsibilities of being an Adler volunteer Ensuring the maintenance of the volunteer database and tracking system, Volgistics, to monitor volunteer schedules, assignments, attendance, training, and performance   The Person   We are looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable, ethical, approachable, and enjoys making people feel welcome and comfortable. This person is able to think strategically and manage a service department by example. They know how to develop and sustain supportive relationships with a variety of people with diverse talents and needs, and enjoy championing the value of volunteer services and our organization’s mission. This person is comfortable in a one-person department and a nonprofit environment where their support and talents will be needed across a wide range of functions. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 3-5 years’ experience in volunteer services management Adaptable, flexible, and creative relationship building skills Excellent communication, writing, and presentation/training skills Experience administering a volunteer services database Ability to work flexible, nontraditional hours as needed Preferred Qualifications: Experience in volunteer services with a museum or cultural institution Experience growing and/or developing various aspects of a volunteer services program Previous experience with Volgistics Volunteer Administration Certification The Team The Volunteer Services Program joins the Human Resources Team in delivering services and championing the most important asset of the Adler – our people.  We take pride in supporting a unique group of the most creative, intelligent, diverse, and outstanding volunteers and employees in our galaxy!
