Job Summary:

To plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and communicate the activities of the department and supports the operations of the hospital's Auxiliary Board and fundraising functions.

Provides effective leadership by coordinating and integrating services within their department, with other departments and with the hospital's primary functions.

Updates policies and procedures, handbooks, volunteer job descriptions and other documents necessary for effective management of the department.

Manages departmental budget including processes to monitor operational and capital costs.

Manages department human resources by: determining qualifications, competence and performance expectations; implementing and monitoring staffing plans; providing orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department and applying policies/procedures pertaining to human resources management.

Continuously assess and improve the department's performance by designing operational processes, monitoring performance through data, analyzing the data, implementing sustainable performance improvement, and participating in multi-disciplinary inter-departmental PI activities.

Manages information by providing information systems and data management for department operations and performance improvement.

Manages the environment (of care) by developing, implementing and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks; preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining safe conditions for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors.

Responsible for the activity, performance and management of team members in the Volunteer Department.

Manages and supports the activities and projects of the hospital Volunteer Auxiliary Board. Recruits, interviews, trains and places hospital volunteers and supports the activities and projects of the Auxiliary Board.

May be responsible for managing the Baby Photographer operation – to include contractual staff. Represents the hospital on various hospital development and community committees.


Education: Bachelor's degree in business management or behavioral science. Comparable work experience MAY substitute for education requirement.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in volunteer administration, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Currently holding credentials in volunteer administration or in process of earning such credentials.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May be responsible for the supervision of up to 8 non-exempt employees and 6 contractual staff.

Special Training: Word processing and spreadsheet application experience preferred; ability to think analytically and problem solve. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills required.

The second oldest hospital in Kansas, Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center is the product of a merger between Christ's Hospital (founded in 1884) and the Jane C. Stormont Hospital and Training School for Nurses (1894). It has grown from a four-story hospital to a 586-bed acute care referral center for northeast Kansas.
