Overall Job Objective Position Summary & Duties Responsible POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Animal Care Services Outreach Manager, coordinate and monitor volunteer program and related community outreach services, evaluate programs performance, recommend and implement modifications to programs policies and procedures, recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteer staff. Work with Outreach Placement Coordinator to secure foster volunteers. Will assist in developing, promoting, and planning community outreach and educational programs for the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARYCoordinates the volunteer program, including volunteer recruitment and selection, training, scheduling and supervision to assist with the day-to-day activities of the shelter, as well as special events.Supervise court ordered community service individuals to ensure that all community service hours haven been met.Assists the Animal Care Services Outreach Manager in educational outreach programs, representing the shelter in a positive way in the community. Develops and presents humane education programs to local schools and various other community groups.Recommend and participate in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing volunteer services; outreach and education; recommend and assist in development of policies and procedures.Monitor and evaluate program performance; recommend and implement modifications to programs and procedures.Responds to volunteer inquires and correspondence. Serves as liaison between administration, staff and volunteers.Identify various functions and duties that can be performed by volunteer coordinators; train staff to perform assigned functions.May receive and assess requests by various agencies for special volunteer projects; assign volunteers to agencies as appropriate.Motivate and evaluate volunteer staff; encourage problem-solving techniques.Promote and coordinate specific activities within assigned programs; prepare event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.Organize, schedule and implement volunteer services, activities and other related programs.Develops and maintains positive relationships with local schools, businesses and community organizations to establish an active network of volunteers and community resources. Maintains a volunteer/community outreach contact list.Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; maintain records for volunteer hours worked; prepare statistical reports as required.*The above information on this job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities required of all employees assigned to this job.  Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree in Education, Business, Marketing, Communications, Social Science or related field plus two (2) years' experience working in customer service/public relations with community outreach, educational or volunteer programs.  Any related combination of education from an accredited college or university or related experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience and may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.One (1) year supervisory or in a lead role experience is required.Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver's license while employed in this position.Preferred experience working with volunteers in an animal-related capacity.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA'S) Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer programs and coordination.Knowledge of concepts and techniques of volunteer recruitment, outreach and promotional events as applied to an animal care or sheltering.Knowledge of principles, techniques, tools and media used in promoting good public relations.Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle effectively multiple concurrent assignments, and activities.Proficiency in the use of Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, and database software and in the development and maintenance of application data.Must have the ability to tolerate stress and thrive in a fast-paced environment with animal care and presence.Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English. Bilingual (Spanish) communication skills a plus.Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with volunteers, supervisors, co-workers, contractors, representatives of other departments or agencies, special interest groups and the general public.Must have the ability to exercise sound judgement concerning assigned work duties and ability to analyze both emergency and non-emergency situations in the workplace.Must be skilled in public speaking and be comfortable relaying pertinent information to school groups, at public meetings and other relevant platforms. Supplemental Information ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSThe offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment drug and medical examination and background investigation.Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.WORKING CONDITIONSAll duties may be performed indoors or outdoors.Duties are generally performed in a temperature-controlled environment.Duties are performed on an even surface which may be carpeted or tiled.Worker is exposed to natural weather conditions while performing outdoor duties. When duties are performed outdoors, a County vehicle may be used.Worker may be exposed to animals, aggressive animals, animal bites, disease, odors, animal dander, animal byproducts and chemicals.Worker is exposed to intermittent noise factors.Worker performs duties alone or as part of a select team.Shiftwork will be required and schedules may vary to include extended hours and weekends.EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALSEquipment used in performing duties includes: computer, telephone, multi-line telephone and general office equipment.Materials and products:  handles logs, various forms and paperwork, writing utensils, manuals regarding the use of equipment and emergency procedures.
