**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is in need of Guardian Advocate volunteers to assist patients in our Crisis Services. This is a volunteer, unpaid position.
Guardian Advocate Volunteer is an informed decision maker for a person who has been found by the court to be incompetent to consent to his or her own mental health treatment.
Responsibilities of a Guardian Advocate:
To protect the informed consent rights of the person.
Make decisions concerning treatment that the person would have made if competent to make his/her own treatment decisions.
Seek information needed to make informed decisions.
Qualifications for a Appointment as a Guardian Advocate:
Prior to being appointed Guardian Advocate, an individual must agree to the appointment after being informed of his/her duties and responsibilities, receive DCF clearance, TB and drug screening.
A Guardian Advocate must meet the qualifications of a guardian contained in Chapter 744, Part IV, Florida Statutes in which the proposed guardian must be a competent adult who has not been:
* Convicted of a felony.
* Found to be incapable, due to incapacity or illness of discharging the duties.
* Otherwise found to be unsuitable to perform the duties of a guardian.
* Judicially determined to have committed abuse, abandonment, or neglect against a child or found guilty of or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any offense prohibited under s.435.03.
