Junior Volunteer Coordinator
Temporary - 40 hours/week
Coordinates and assists in the direction of the Summer Junior Volunteer Program.
Provides training and on-going supervision of the Junior volunteers.
Schedules the Junior Volunteers daily.
Coordinates and assigns Junior Volunteers throughout the hospital.
Develops an evaluation instrument and conducts on-going evaluations and end-of-summer evaluations.
Performs special projects and fundraisers as assigned, and assists the Coordinator as required.
Performs additional duties as may by required under the direction of the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Computer skills: Volgistics, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access; mainframe system entry.
Excellent communication skills in using the telephone, written correspondence, and speaking, ability to speak and write clearly, accurately, and persuasively.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to deal with a wide range of people in an open, tactful, discreet, supportive and non- judgmental manner and is able and committed to respect confidentiality and private information.
Ability to take and follow direction without close supervision.
Can multi task and tolerate interruptions and remain adaptable and steady.
Must be prepared to be a role model for the junior volunteers.
Must have ability to interface well with people, to work under pressure, and to manage multiple priorities.
Must demonstrate ability to supervise and work well with teens.
Sedentary work: exerting up to 10lbs of force occasionally and negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move object(s). Involves sitting and may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Normal hospital environment where there is limited physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, and the like.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Computer skills required. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and mainframe system entry.
Ability to make decisions, assess problems and determine whether to refer to a supervisor. Understanding and tact in dealing with patients, families, visitors, and/or volunteers. Maintains discretion in handling the confidential nature of the information in the department and hospital. Ability to adapt to a variety of situations, changes in duties and department requirements. Displays verbal ability and clerical perception. Knowledge and understanding of hospital policy, and the ability to communicate to a diverse population.
